Will my website need more bandwidth if I add a video?

Short answer: Highly unlikely.

Long Answer: The majority of our clients simpy use video hosting services (such as YouTube or Vimeo) to host their content for them.  This works nicely because their current website solution doesn't have to do the actual work, they get somebody else (like YouTube) to provide the bandwidth, and it's easy enough that children can put videos on them.

Sometimes our clients prefer to host it themselves, but those rare clients usually already have plenty of horsepower in their website to push their video, especially since we sent them a variety of compressed video files.  Theoretically though, yes, it's possible that a client who didn't want to take the easy road and use a video hosting service etc. might end up needing to nudge up their bandwidth in order to host their video.

The good news is that even if that's the case, they'd only pay for bandwidth for people who actually sat and watched their video, so they'd be paying pennies or less to hold each customer's undivided attention for a few minutes!  Isn't online video great?
